This weekend, May 18th 2013 , Luke Rockhold will be looking to make his place in the UFC's Middleweight division with a win over the long time veteran Vitor Belfort. A win over Belfort would be his 10th in a row and would most certainly make him the No.1 contender to the Middleweight Crown in the eyes of the hardcore fans, but does it in the UFC's eyes?
Johny Hendricks, besides having one of the best pound for pound beards in MMA has had to go on a 6 fight winning streak which includes knocking out Jon Fitch in 12 seconds , knocking out Martin Kampmann in 46 seconds and taking on Carlos Condit in a surefire Fight of the Year candidate. Even though he has been promised a shot at GSP's Welterweight crown it still hasn't been guaranteed. Even though "Bigg Rigg"is the clear cut contender in the welterweight he has been looked over by the UFC's because there has been a more marketable fight to sell. Point in case Nick Diaz was gifted a title shot over Hendricks at UFC 158. Even though the fight was a clear mismatch in the eyes of the fans the PPV draw for Ufc 158 was huge. Now even 2 months after it has been said the next fight for GSP may not be Johny Hendricks.
Ricardo lamas, Erik Koch and "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung have all been looked over for title shots in he featherweight division by the UFC for more marketable fights in Frankie Edgar and Anthony Pettis, two Lightweights moving down and getting immediate title shots without ever fighting in the division.
With all of these signs its hard to believe that the last Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold will be granted a Title shot if he beats Belfort this weekend and even its even more wherry should Chris Weidman beat "The Spider" as a rematch would be almost certain. Only time will tell.
