Mr. Ric Flair is noted for saying, "to be the man, you got to beat the man", and after watching the fight Saturday night it is clear that no beating of the man took place. You have to take the title from the Champion, if there is any uncertainty who won, then the Champ is entitled to the benefit of the doubt.
Therefore, round 2 Bendo.
Seriously, Bendo was never in any jeopardy at all in the fight. Melendez came forward, but did not land as many strikes as Bendo or make up for being outlanded by doing more damage with his strikes he did land.
Candidly, Melendez received terrible advice from his corner, I don't know how his corner failed to identify how close the fight was, and gambled on his being up in rounds by telling him such and not compelling him to fight with any sense of urgency.
You need to take the title from the champ, not hope with fingers crossed that the judges hand the title to you.
An immediate rematch is not warranted.
