Dana White: Nick Diaz wanted to fight Georges St-Pierre in hotel

According to UFC president Dana White, we nearly got the long-awaited fight between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz in a hotel back in 2011.

Speaking on Jim Rome's nationally syndicated radio show Wednesday, White revealed that Diaz, after his UFC 137 victory over B.J. Penn in Las Vegas, went looking for St-Pierre in the hotel after the card, seeking an impromptu brawl.

"There's more to this story that hasn't been told," White told Rome. "Nobody has talked about this, I haven't said anything about it, but at one of the fights, the one where he really started calling Georges out, he was chasing Georges around the hotel and like yelling at him and stuff. And Georges thought he was going to try to fight him at the hotel. He was just waiting for the elevator doors to open and there would be Nick Diaz. The last fight after he won his fight and was saying all those things in the ring about Georges, he was really messing with Georges bad at the fight and trying to fight him at the hotel. That really pissed Georges off."

White told Rome the story on the same day as Diaz no-showed the open workouts for his UFC 158 main event, scheduled for Saturday night at Montreal's Bell Centre. Will this be a one-time thing, or is this the start of a pattern of behavior for the week? White said there will be repercussions if Diaz doesn't show up for Thursday's UFC 158 press conference.

"If he does not show up tomorrow for the press conference, it's not going to be good," White said. "I don't know what to say, or what's going to happen, but let me tell you what, it will not be good."

The UFC president, of course, has a serious possibility to ponder: What if Diaz wins? What if the ultimate anti-authority fighter gets control of one of the UFC's most historically significant championships? White concedes they're preparing for the possibility.

"Yeah if he wins, you know, we are seriously going to have to have a ‘Come to Jesus' meeting, you know what I mean? I don't know, we'll see man."

Later, White added "If he wins the title, he's going to have to come to Vegas, and we're going to have to sit down and we did this already when he signed the new deal. I'm going to have to tell him, if you miss anything, I will strip you of the title. I don't know what else to do. I really don't know what else to do."

Asked if Diaz is putting on act, White said that in his own way, Diaz is the real deal. "There is no schtick with this kid," White said. "He is a different animal, man. He's absolutely hard to deal with."
