Condit via decision over Hendricks

With Rory MacDonald injured and unable to compete against Carlos Condit at UFC 158, Johny Hendricks steps in to fight Condit in Montreal next month. This is a very intriguing matchup, and not one that is easy to decipher. If you think about it, Hendricks might be able to take a similar strategy as GSP and win via ground and pound and take a judges decision. However, since Hendricks has become a wrestler turned one-punch KO artist, he will likely keep looking for that big left hand the entire fight against Condit. But will he be able to land it? I think he won't. He'll land some lefts but I think he won't get a clean shot on the chin of Condit to knock him senseless as he did with former foes at 170 in Jon Fitch and Martin Kampmann. Not only does Condit have a solid chin, he doesn't take that much damage on the feet, and the Jackson camp will not allow him to get caught in the same snare that others have fallen into with Hendricks. People are aware of Hendricks power and a huge chunk of Condit's training camp will be working on avoiding that left. So I foresee Hendricks looking for the big KO for most of the 15 minutes and abandoning his amateur wrestling skills in this fight. I think Condit will be able to avoid the big left and outstrike Hendricks for the majority of the fight. Tough one to call, but Condit two rounds to one by decision. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JD is a freelance writer and founder of Armbar MMA clothing.
