This may be pretty obvious at this point, but the UFC needs Brock more than ever. Not just a little bit, but in a really big way. Regardless of whether you think he's going to challenge for the belt, the fact is he can get PPV buys and that's what the UFC needs in 2014.
In short time, the UFC is now in a position of weakness when it comes to filling PPV cards. I won't spell it out, but GSP, Silva and Velasquez are major holes. I don't question the talents of Rousey, but a hail of boos like that doesn't scream out PPV buys does it? Rousey is set to headline a PPV event in February, but is that one you are circling on your calender? Bones Jones is the UFC savior and since this is MMA, who is to say that he will retain his title? If he does lose it, it's going to be a fairly unknown fighter taking the belt which again doesn't help in the PPV buys department.
Consider also injuries that are bound to come up and trying to adjust cards to remain PPV worthy. It's going to be a challenge in 2014 for sure. In fact, a further rash of injuries to champions and or top PPV talent is going to dial up the stress level on the UFC brass in a big way.
If you can get Brock onto 2 cards in 2014, that will help fill out cards. Afterall, if not Brock, then who else can the UFC get? You might suggest Fedor and I would agree. People would pay PPV money to see Fedor even if he skills have diminished. If you think about it, the two names I've just mentioned have been rumored a couple years ago to be in discussions for a fight. Can you imagine? Not a title fight, but certainly one PPV card worthy matchup.
Do you think the UFC needs to be worrying about PPV buys in 2014? Are you going to buy about the same regardless of the headliner fight?
