Bellator 106, as a whole, didn't come off as the most exciting event in mma history. There were, however, some fairly good fights on display.
The Good. Eddie Alvarez's victory, although controversial, sets up a rubber match between Chandler and Alvarez. The fight wasn't as good as the original. Yet, it was a fast paced and fun fight with a few intense moments. It really was an incredible back and forth battle. Also, the opening bout between Stepanyan and Rich man was exciting.
The Bad. King Mo vs. Emmanuel Newton wasn't a very exciting fight. After the marketing push Bellator put behind Mo, only to have him fall twice to a journeyman fighter, it's difficult not to be reminded of Elitexc and Kimbo. Although, this situation didn't have as much at stake. Still, the marketing push behind Lawall must seem like a waste of money to some people in the marketing department. Strauss vs. Curran wasn't very exciting either.
The Ugly. It's hard to imagine that casual fans, and ufc fans switching to Bellator for the first time, had the patience to sit through the Strauss vs. Curran and Lawall vs. Newton fights. The tragedy is that many fans will have missed the rematch of Alvarez vs. Chandler. Personally, I thought the fight was really fun. After tonight's fights, it may be even harder for Bellator to pull off a good pay-per-view. I certainly wouldn't buy it based on the quality of the fights put on tonight. Bjorn Rebney must have been cursing up a storm when Lawall, Newton, Curran and Strauss seemed to be fighting as slow as mollases. It was really that slow and boring during most of those two fights. There were exciting moments but the boring parts (stalling etc.) Still took up the majority of the fights. I haven't read any critical reports from the mmmedia yet so excuse me if this writing is amateurish.
