That's up for debate. But there's no doubt it was best fight Saturday night at UFC 166. Melendez's unanimous-decision victory over Sanchez after 15 minutes of crazy brawling earned both fighters $60,000 bonuses for Fight of the Night.
UFC president Dana White announced the awards at the postfight news conference at Houston's Toyota Center.
Of course, Melendez and Sanchez weren't the only fighters to walk home $60,000 richer. John Dodson pocketed a Knockout of the Night award for his first-round finish of Darrell Montague. Dodson caught Montague flush on the jaw with a big left. Montague's legs wobbled, then he planted face-first on the mat.
And former TUF winner Tony Ferguson also went home a bonus winner. Ferguson used a sweet D'Arce choke to take out Mike Rio at 1:52 of the first round of their prelim bout and earned Submission of the Night honors.
