UFC on FOX 6: Glover Teixeira beats Rampage Jackson

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

If it is the end for Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in the UFC, it mostly came on his terms, in a fight that mostly followed the style he preferred. Despite the fact that he and Glover Teixeira spent most of the three rounds standing up and trading strikes, it did not go Jackson's way.

Teixeira landed the fight's most impactful strikes, and peppered in occasional takedowns to win a unanimous decision in the UFC on FOX 6 co-main event. The judges scored it 30-27, 30-27, 29-28.

Teixeira came out living up to his promise of standing with Rampage, content to engage in exchanges. About midway through, Teixeira landed a takedown and got Jackson's back. Jackson worked free, but once he got back to his feet, he found that Teixeira's striking is legit. The Brazilian wobbled Jackson with a left hook, then scored with the same punch moments later. He stalked him for the final 30 seconds of the round but couldn't get the finish.

It was one of several dominant moments Teixeira had in the fight. He was 5-for-5 in takedowns, passed Jackson's guard five times and had full mount in the fight's final seconds. He closed it out from that position, with a series of elbows and punches to the final horn.

The fight was the last on Jackson's UFC contract, and he has said multiple times that he plans to the leave the promotion after a rocky six-year alliance. Overall, he fought 12 times for the UFC, with a record of 7-5 during a run that was highlighted by his unification of the UFC and PRIDE 205-pound championship.

Jackson, now 32-11, will head to free agency while Teixeira rockets upward in the UFC's light-heavyweight division. With his 18th straight victory, he's now 20-2.
