Tom Szczerbowski-US PRESSWIRE

T.J. Grant is ready to announce himself as a lightweight contender. Since moving down to the UFC's 155-pound division, Grant has looked fantastic, and his Saturday night UFC on FOX 6 performance was his best yet.

Facing the surging Matt Wiman, Grant rolled, hurting him early with a right hand, and finishing him late in the first round with a knockout at 4:51.

The final sequence came after Grant rocked him and floored him with a pair of elbows against the cage. He followed up with strikes on the ground for the finish.

It was only the second time in Wiman's career he's been finished.

"It turned out perfectly," Grant said. "My plan was to keep Matt on the feet, try to expose some holes. I know how tough and durable he's been. I'm happy to put him away."

Grant, who has also stacked up lightweight wins over Evan Dunham, Carlo Prater and Shane Roller, is now 20-5 overall, and looking like a factor in the division.

Wiman, who came into Chicago a winner of five of his last six, fell to 15-7.
