Strikeforce Live Blog: Lumumba Sayers vs. Anthony Smith

SAN DIEGO -- This is the Strikeforce live blog for Lumumba Sayers vs. Anthony Smith, a middleweight bout at Saturday night's event at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego.

Sayers, who has won two of his last three Strikeforce fights, will fight Smith, who is returning to Strikeforce for the first time since he lost to Adlan Amagov on Nov. 2011, on the main card.

Round 1: Herb Dean is your referee. Sayers meets a Smith low kick with a two-punch combo. They hit the ground and Smith has top position, but Sayers has him tied up. Smith lands a few punches from top position. Sayers scalp is cut open. Two minutes in. Sayers tries to posture up, briefly manages to get to his feet, but walks into a choke attempt. Sayers escapes, they are back to their feet. Sayers clinches Smith from behind and wants a slam, but Smith turns it into an arm bar attempt. Sayers rolls out of it. They're standing. 90 seconds left. Sayers drops Smith with a punch and barely avoids an up kick from the downed Smith. Sayers, however, falls right into a triangle choke and he submits.
