Thiago Silva vs. Brandon Vera Rematch Booked for UFC on FX 3

Feb 2, 2012 - Thiago Silva and Brandon Vera will look to settle a previous no contest when the two light heavyweights meet for a rematch at UFC on FX 3 on May 15 in Fairfax, Va., the UFC announced late Wednesday.

At UFC 125 in January 2011, Silva punished Vera for three rounds to win a unanimous decision and sent Vera to the hospital with a broken nose. However, it turned out Silva falsified his post-fight urine sample by providing urine not consistent with a human's. Silva was fined, suspended for one year and had his win changed to a no contest.

Silva admitted to giving a false sample to hide the presence of banned substances. He explained he suffered a back injury 45 days before the Vera fight and instead of withdrawing, decided to take injections in his back and spine.

Silva's drug test failure saved Vera's job. Vera was cut from the UFC after his UFC 125 loss but later rehired when the news came out that Silva falsified his urine sample.

Vera (12-5) returned to action at UFC 137 in October, outpointing Eliot Marshall to a unanimous decision. Silva (14-2) will be fighting for the first time at UFC on FX 3 since his suspension.

The last UFC at the Patriot Center in Fairfax was UFC Fight Night 20: Maynard vs. Diaz in January 2010.

Glad to see they booked this rematch

I don’t see it going much different than the first bout though. Thiago is such a beast.
- Hopefully Brandon can avoid going to the hospital again. He seems to be heading there a lot after his fights.
- Would like to see Thiago get things rolling, two or three fights this year. What has he fought twice in two years?

Brandon is a glutton for punishment

This man must have a burning desire to have his other nose broken.

Vera

Wtf

Why does Silva always make that stupid ass face, I hate it lol but I really don’t see this fight going any differently, Vera has just been so unimpressive lately. Even though I really like Vera and would like to see him put a win streak together, he just doesn’t seem like the same fighter as his early days in the UFC

I think Brandon will learn from the first fight.

The outcome may very well be the same but I see the fight itself playing out slightly different. I think Vera may be able to hurt him more easily since he probably won’t be on such high levels of juice this time.

Hopefully Brandon has been working on his TDD.

Vera’s game has looked exactly the same since he started in the UFC.

I see a similar outcome

Vera just seems to have lost the firepower that he once possessed. He did good in the standup in their last fight, but no matter how much steroids somebody takes it doesn’t allow them to have better top control. Vera not being able to get up had nothing to do with Silva being on the juice, Silva is just a beast on the ground. People keep talking about his striking and power but I’m pretty sure most of his TKOs were on the ground. He is a GNP guy and whenever he starts losing the standup he always goes back to it
