UFC on FUEL in Tweets: Fighters React to Jake Ellenberger vs. Diego Sanchez

Feb 15, 2012 - In the weeks leading up to their pivotal welterweight scrap, Diego Sanchez and Jake Ellenberger promised a dogfight that would rival the early candidates for ‘Fight of the Year.' On Wednesday night, they delivered on that promise.

Sanchez and Elllenberger unleashed a wild three-round affair at the main event of UFC on FUEL, delighting the Omaha crowd with a number of furious exchanges and a late swing in momentum that almost saw "The Dream" steal the show. In the end, Ellenberger may have emerged the victor, pocketing a unanimous decision (29-28, x3) to the glee of his hometown crowd, but the result was not without its critics.

As Bruce Buffer tallied the judges' scorecards, a flood of professional fighters took to Twitter, sounding off on everything from the lack of five rounds to cries for a draw. Surprisingly, even the usually Twitter-averse Nick Diaz let his opinion be known, and needless to say, it was everything you'd expect.

Quick question

I noticed that I’m not the only one puzzled by the fact that the main event was not a five rd fight. Do you have any idea why it wasn’t?

Hendo/Bisping:
"He hit him so hard that even gravity got scared. Bisping hung in mid-air for a moment while gravity screamed at inertia, "Did you see that shit!?" Then, after a high five, the two universal forces quit screwing around and yanked Bisping's limp body onto the floor." - Seanbaby

in the past only the main events on PPV's, FOX, and FX cards were scheduled for 5 rounds

but after tonight Dana clarified that from now on ALL main events will be 5 rounds.

me too

it’s almost like Diaz has no idea what judges are scoring. That, and of course he doesn’t like Ellenberger since Ellenberger kicked Shield’s ass.

To Nick Diaz and everyone else that says draw:

To address Nick Diaz, you’re a sore loser that actually thinks you beat Carlos Condit so your opinion doesn’t matter anymore. Also, your biased. But to everyone else, with credability, who disagrees with the decision, how in the hell could the last round be scored 10-8 Sanchez? Ellenberger did land a few solid shots and backed Sanchez up. Diego didn’t take his back till about 1:20 left. So he dominated the round for only a little over a minute. The rest of the round was pretty even in the striking department with Diego stepping it up compared to the first two rounds.

What credibility do you have bro? Haha yo and if you know anything about mma or boxing you know that diaz beat condit.. Anyway diaz was right, if this fight tonight would have been in the streets and real ellenberger would be dead.. He gassed 12 mins into the fight.. No way ellenberger would have been able to go a full 5X5.. Anyway i felt jake did enough to win but hes no where near top 5 170 pounders.. Gotta work on the cardio and heart g..

Your's is one of the dumbest comments I've ever read.

And I visit Sherdog on a daily basis yet you still top that.

by doomrider7 on Feb 16, 2012 6:57 AM EST up reply actions

Too bad it's not

Diaz is a dick. First off, it wasn’t a street fight to the death, but if it had been, Ellenberger possibly could have killed Sanchez if the rounds didn’t end to let Sanchez restart. Secondly, Diaz himself has 8 losses no matter how much he denies it, so I guess that means he would have been killed in a street fight 8 times already. It’s just such a stupid statement he made.

Pretty ignorant...

to say that Diazs’ opinion “doesn’t matter anymore”.If the former SF Welterweight Champion/top 5 welterweights opinion doesn’t matter, then ours as keyboard commentators/couch coaches sure as shit don’t either LOL.

If you disagree with someone’s opinion, that’s fine, but discounting it altogether on the grounds that you don’t like the person himself and have to use the judges “razor thin, could’ve gone either way” decision in his most recent fight as a security blanket to reinforce your pre-existing bias is a wee bit childish and narcissistic.

Sad night for old Jake E had this been real shit he would be dead!

Interesting take……. if you’re a twelve-year-old.

Albert Pujols would have NEVER hit that walk-off home run if he was playin wiffle ball in my backyard!

For all those who don’t get diazs…jake e would have been dead tweet….don’t get Diaz.
The guy looks at it has a fight first and sport second. To him jake would have been killed if in that position for that long in a real fight. Ellenberger would have been toast in the 4th rd.

It's official.

Nick Diaz has smoked himself retarded.

by doomrider7 on Feb 16, 2012 6:55 AM EST reply actions

Diaz is still..

delusional he should be grateful he’s getting suspended. Jake E. goes thru Nick Diaz like a buzzsaw.

by bezzarguy on Feb 16, 2012 11:30 AM EST reply actions

awesome match!!!

I hope Carlos Condit was taking notes on what a “dogfight” is.

by grizzly907 on Feb 16, 2012 12:13 PM EST reply actions

LMAO

Ellenberger was on top at the end of each round what the hell is Diaz talking about. I’m no pro fighter but anyone would say Diaz’s statements are childish and delusional. That being said I can’t wait to see the crazy fool fight again.

dont get bent out of shape

Nick was just happy to see a greg jackson fighter actually come out and get in a fight not some stupid slap match point game. Good for you Deigo win loose or draw you have a giant set of balls and guys that fight like that always get the bigger fights and take a shorter path to title contention
imo a fight like that is a plus for both fighters I for one cant wait to see either of these guys again losses always suck but if there is such a thing as a good loss this would have to be one of them
