TUF 16 Finale medical suspensions: Foot injury could sideline Pat Barry until June

USA TODAY Sports

Four fighters who competed at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale could face layoffs until the middle of June unless cleared by doctors, including the popular heavyweight Pat Barry, who will require an X-ray to determine if he escaped unscathed from his Saturday night win in Las Vegas.

Barry, who knocked out Shane del Rosario in the second round of their fight, must have his right foot looked at, and so was given a conditional medical suspension that stretches to June 15, 2013. Once cleared, he'll be eligible to fight again.

Three other fighters were given similar orders by the Nevada state athletic commission, which regulated the show and released the results to the media.

Marcos Vinicius, who was knocked out in the second round by Johnny Bedford, might have suffered broken bones in his face, and must be cleared by an ear, nose and throat doctor or a maxillofacial surgeon. Even if he's cleared of the injury which would necessitate a six-month suspension, he can not fight again until February 14 for precautionary reasons.

Vinc Pichel can not fight again until June unless he has his left foot cleared by an orthopedist. Like Vinicius, he has a minimum suspension that runs until Feb. 14.

John Cofer was the last of those that must be cleared by a doctor for a possible injury to his right shoulder. His precautionary suspension ends on June 15, unless cleared.
