Tom DeBlass announced his retirement via Twitter today. The news was retweeted by Ariel Helwani.
Deblass most recently competed on UFC on Fuel TV 6 in Macau, China, where he lost a unanimous decision to Japanese fighter Riki Fukuda. The loss dropped his professional record to 7-2.
Prior to signing with the UFC, DeBlass competed with the Ring of Combat fight promotion, going unbeaten there in his first seven professional bouts, and winning their championship.
According to his twitter statement, DeBlass discussed the idea with his coaches, and decided to retire due to a lack of desire and so he could focus more on his family. The avid grappler has competed in the Abu Dhabi trials and No Gi World Championships outside of mixed martial arts. Of his seven professional mixed martial art wins, he finished four of his opponents, and he himself was not finished in either of his losses.
