After a few quiet weeks, things are finally beginning to heat up. When it rains, it pours.
This week we learned Dan Henderson was never even asked whether he would like to coach opposite Jon Jones for season 17 of 'The Ultimate Fighter'. That, ladies and gentleman, is how you clean out a division without even fighting all of the other contenders in it. It's believed the ticket sales for UFC 151 weren't great and Henderson confirming he wasn't asked to coach opposite Jones is reasonably good evidence UFC brass are simply not confident a Jones vs. Henderson show and eventual fight is enough to reinvigorate tough. Think about that for a moment. Jones, arguably the best fighter alive, vs. Dan Henderson, arguably one of the greatest fighters ever, can't get the TUF juices flowing.
And in three weeks, we've got the return of UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre. For the first time since July, I've got casual fans finally talking to me about MMA. I know there are some reports of sluggish ticket sales in Montreal for UFC 154, but I suspect they're largely overblown. GSP's return is a big, big deal.
And if that weren't enough, this weekend we've got the pro debut of Steve Mocco, Sergio Pettis on national television, Lance Palmer on national television, a match between college's two best wrestlers and so much more.
There's a ton to discuss.
