Four days after Jeremy Stephens was arrested on the day he was supposed to fight at UFC on FX 5, the UFC lightweight is still in jail.

On Tuesday, Oct. 23, Stephens will finally face a judge, with a 1:30 pm CT court date.

Stephens, who is currently being held at the Hennepin County Jail in Minneapolis, Minnesota, will be facing extradition to Iowa for an assault charge. According to the county's online records, he had his bail set at $100,000.

According to both UFC president Dana White and Stephens' management at Evolution Agents, the arrest stems from a 2011 incident in Polk County, Iowa.

The Hennepin County sheriff's office has not released any further details on the case. Both the Polk County sheriff's office and Des Moines police department told MMA Fighting that the information can only be released in person or through a mailed request.

Evolution Agents yesterday issued a statement saying that while Stephens was in attendance at a party where the alleged assault took place, he had never previously been arrested in connection with the incident, contacted about it, or served any warrant.

On Friday, White worked to get Stephens released in time to compete at his scheduled fight with Yves Edwards, but was unable to do so. According to White, despite his willingness to work out a deal at any cost, terms of a release were continually changed until he ran out of time.

The 26-year-old Stephens is 20-8 in his professional career. He's fought 14 times in the UFC octagon with a record of 7-7, and has dropped his last two in decision losses to Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone, respectively.

White has said that he would continue to back Stephens, who must now wind his way through the court system before resuming his fight career.

"I'm always going to believe my guy and support my guy until I'm proven wrong," White said.
