Undercard participants Michael Johnson, Diego Nunes, and Bart Palaszewski, and main card fighter Justin Edwards each earned $40,000 in post-fight bonuses for their work at UFC on FX 5. UFC officials announced the bonuses following the event.
After surviving two near finishes in round one, Johnson stormed back in the second frame to drop Danny Castillo with a short left hook and seize ‘Knockout of the Night' honors, marking the first post-fight bonus of his UFC career.
"He caught me in the first round," Johnson said afterward. "Hats off to him. I just had to stay composed. He wasted all his energy. My hands got the best of him and that's a wrap."
‘Fight of Night' went to Nunes and Palaszewski for a knock-down, drag-out 15-minute affair on the FUEL TV preliminary card. Nunes ultimately emerged the winner on the judges' scorecards (30-27, 29-28, 30-27) to earn his third UFC victory.
Lastly, Edwards claimed ‘Submission of the Night' honors by upsetting Josh Neer with a quick first-round guillotine choke. The finish arrived with Neer asleep on the mat just 45 seconds into the bout.
"I thought it was going to be a very exciting fight," Edwards explained. "I thought it would be a fast pace and I didn't think it'd end that early."
