Nick Diaz apparently does not have the same favorable opinions of the UFC that Allistair Overeem has. Dana White has said that Diaz will have to fight one of the top welterweights before getting another shot at the Welterweight Championship, so the question that remains is who?
The loser of Johny Hendricks vs. Martin Kampmann:
This would make the most sense with this matchup being the presumed title-eliminator bout for the welterweight division. Either fighter, Hendricks or Kampmann, would provide an exciting opponent for Diaz. Hendricks would press the action and you can never count Kampmann out of a fight. It seems simple, winner fights the winner of Condit and GSP, loser fights Diaz.
At UFC 153, Fitch looked like a completely different fighter. I don't remember the last time I gave a standing ovation during a Fitch fight. He said afterwards that this happens when both fighters bring it and does that not personify Diaz? Although Diaz would have an advantage in the striking game, Fitch's wrestling is as good as anyone's in the division. I think this would be an exciting bout for both fighters.
I know, I know...Rory still has work ahead of him. In fact, he is fighting a future UFC Hall of Famer. If Rory gets past BJ Penn, a fight between him and Diaz would be fantastic. Both fighters are in their prime and this could be the test to see if Rory is ready for a title shot.
