If there is one thing I’ve learned from years of watching MMA it’s that there are certain warning signs to when a favored fighter is going to lose. With Georges St. Pierre’s forthcoming bout at UFC 154 in November there are three warning signs that almost assuredly will mean the non-defending interim welterweight champion, Carlos Condit, will become the undisputed champ and finally be forced to defend his title.

1. GSP is Coming Back Too Soon - GSP is ahead of his anticipated 10 month recovery schedule, but it won’t matter once he is locked in the cage with Carlos Condit. In the same way that Cain Velasquez took the fight with JDS at the very first possible moment and lost or Brock Lesnar coming back after battling diverticulitis, GSP, in his zeal to be ready to defend his title in Canada will result in an upset--one in which he’ll make a bunch of money, but an upset nonetheless.


2. GSP Will Be Gunshy - Ever since Matt Serra put a surprise beatdown on him at UFC 83, GSP hasn’t been the tenacious or aggressive mauler that ran through Frank Trigg, Sean Sherk, and Matt Hughes to win the title. You combine that with the typical hesitations that occur after an injury and I think you’ll see the Natural Born Killer, Carlos Condit, being pulled off of a gunshy GSP much the same way just about everyone has been pulled off of Mirko Cro Cop once he was too worried about his surgically repaired knees to throw his head kicks.

3. GSP Will Fall Victim to the Superfight Curse - Just like Silva vs Liddell (in their primes), Couture vs Fedor, Couture vs Cro Cop, GSP vs Diaz and any other potential superfight that has been teased before us MMA fans, there is no way in Mt. Olympas that the MMA gods are going to allow GSP vs Anderson Silva to fight each other. Even if GSP were to squeak out a calm, calculated and boring decision over Carlos Condit--which he won’t--something awful will happen to GSP or Anderson. It just happens!
