UFC 140 Live Blog: Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida Updates

TORONTO -- This is the UFC 140 live blog for Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida, the main event of tonight's UFC pay-per-view from the Air Canada Centre.

Jones (14-1), who is fighting for the fourth time this year, is making his second title defense. Machida (17-2) fought once this year, knocking out Randy Couture at UFC 129 in April.

The live blog is below.

Round 1: Referee "Big" John McCarthy gives the signal, and we're off. Once again, Jones starts of a fight in the same crouched stance he used against "Rampage" Jackson. Machida stands back and waits for him to come out of it, which he does. Jones stalking Machida, pawing forward with a hook that can't find him. Spinning back kick by Jones, then a leg kick. Machida counters the next one with a nice looping left. Jones continues chopping away at that leg, and Machida fires off a punch combo every time he does. Machida comes forward with a kick, and Jones blocks it, but the satisfying smack gets the crowd's attention. Jones misses with a hook from too far out, and Machida stings him with a flurry. It's probably the most we've seen him get hit in any fight, and the first round isn't even over yet. Jones keeps after him, and Machida keeps looking to counter rather than attack first. There's the horn. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Machida.

Round 2:
It's a kicking contest early in round two. Machida keeps looking for the front kick, while Jones can flick out that head kick like it's a jab. The crowd gets behind Machida again, while the pace stays very careful and deliberate. Jones spins as if getting ready to fire something, but nothing comes. Machida opens up with a combo that sends sweat flying off Jones' head. Jones tries to get ahold of him, but can't hang on. Jones hammers Machida with a counter right that hurts him. Jones gets the takedown on a wobbly Machida and goes to work with elbows from the top. Machida manages to work to his feet, but he's got a nasty cut over his left eye, so we'll pause to get the doctor's opinion. Apparently he's good to continue, so we re-start in the clinch. They work in close, then separate. Jones backs him up against the fence and catches Machida with a short left just as he's coming in. Machida drops, and Jones locks up guillotine as he gets back to his feet. He switches to a modified grip and squeezes the choke tight on a standing Machida. Machida isn't responding, and he may be out. Big John finally moves in and Jones releases him, letting his unconscious body fall to the floor like a bag of dirty laundry. And still the champ.

Jon Jones def. Lyoto Machida via technical submission (guillotine choke) at 4:26 of round two
