UFC 139 Live Blog: Wanderlei Silva vs. Cung Le Updates

Wanderlei Silva faces Cung Le at UFC 139.SAN JOSE, Calif. -- This is the UFC 139 live blog for Wanderlei Silva vs. Cung Le, a middleweight bout on tonight's UFC pay-per-view from the HP Pavilion.

Silva (33-11-1) is coming off a knockout loss to Chris Leben at UFC 132 in July. Le (7-1) makes his UFC debut after fighting exclusively prior for Strikeforce. The San Shou fighter's last fight was in June 2010, a KO over Scott Smith.

Round 1: Cung Le makes it all of eight seconds before attempting his first kick. Silva's undeterred. He charges in with hooks and manages to clip Le. That gave Le something to think about as he backs away. Spinning heel kick from Le. Silva opens up with the hooks and gets briefly dropped by Le. Le keeps after him with kicks and a spinning backfist. Le makes the mistake of getting in too close and Silva hooks him again. Another spinning kick from Le, but it looked more dangerous than it was for Silva. Head kick by Silva is partially blocked, but he goes on the attack and stings Le with hooks and uppercuts. There's the horn, and Le is cut around his right eye as he heads to his corner. MMA Fighting scores it 10-10.

Round 2: Right off the bat, Le sends Silva tumbling to the mat, but the Brazilian is back up in a hurry, now with a red welt developing on the left side of his face. Le mixes it up with an axe kick and another spinning backfist. The crowd chants Le's name for the first time in the fight, after chanting Silva's name in the first. Le comes forward with a hook and walks right into a Silva right hand. Now the crowd is chanting for Silva again. Silva charges forward with a punch combo and pops Le's head up with an uppercut. Side kick to the body backs Silva up. Silva comes forward with hooks and grabs Le in a Thai clinch for a big knee to the head. Le is hurt and Silva follows with a head kick and a right hand. Le's down. Silva's pounds away at him as Le struggles to his feet. Silva calmly keeps the pressure on, tagging Le again. Le looks for a desperate single-leg, but ends up face-down on the mat, eating hammer fists. Referee Dan Snell has seen enough. A grinning Silva jumps on top of the cage to celebrate.
