LAS VEGAS -- This is the
UFC 137 live blog for
Jeff Curran vs.
Scott Jorgensen , a bantamweight bout on tonight's
UFC pay-per-view card at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
Curran (33-13-1) is back in the UFC with the help of two wins in the local XFO promotion in Illinois. Jorgensen (12-4) made his UFC debut in June, knocking out Ken Stone in the first round.
The live blog is below.
Round 1: Simultaneous jabs land to open the action. Curran throws a wide right, but then doubles up with the jab, both landing. Jorgensen snatches his left leg and puts him on the mat. Curran with a tight guard, controls Jorgensen's wrists and he's unable to get off any offense. Finally, after a minute, he pulls his right hand free and fires off some punches. Curran tried to set up a triangle but Jorgensen didn't let it get close. With :40 left, they were re-set. Curran landed a right, then a left hook and a kick. Jorgensen got another takedown with :10 left. It's his round 10-9.
Round 2: Curran opened well with strikes but he tried a takedown and Jorgensen stuffed him. He had a front headlock and used it to deliver knees to the body. Jorgensen took him down against the fence. Curran got back to his feet. Jorgensen shot in again, and Curran looked for the guillotine, causing a scramble. Back in the center of the cage, Jorgensen took him down once again. After a long period, Curran reversed, but there was little time to work the position. Another round for Jorgensen, 10-9.
Round 3: Curran opens up landing early. He's done fine in the standup, when he keeps it standing. He's scoring with uppercuts and kicks. If he can keep the fight here he does well, but he's going to need a finish after the last two rounds. Jorgensen clinches him and moves him against the fence. They break apart with a minute left. Curran lands an uppercut and left hook behind it. Curran shoots in late but Jorgensen sprawls and ends up on top. It's Curran's round 10-9, but it won't be enough.
Winner: Scott Jorgensen via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
