Former Cage Rage lightweight champion Jason Young has signed with the UFC and will make his promotional debut against Dustin Poirier (pictured) at UFC 131: Lesnar vs. Dos Santos on June 11 in Vancouver.Young replaces the injured Rani Yahya in the featherweight bout. It's an especially nice opportunity for Young since Poirier is coming off a win this past January over former No. 1 contender Josh Grispi and a win over Poirier could conceivably catapult Young right into the title picture.
Young (8-3) of London, England began his MMA career climbing the ranks of the UK-based Cage Rage promotion's feeder show "Contenders." After Cage Rage was sold to EliteXC, Young fought for the former owners' new promotion Ultimate Challenge. Last month Young picked up a unanimous decision win over the respectable Jorge Britto.
Poirier (9-1) was 1-1 with the WEC and moved down to featherweight for his UFC debut at UFC 125.
