Tournament Brackets Set for Dream Bantamweight GP

Dream has announced the first- and second-round matchups for the May 29 Dream "Fight for Japan" event at the Saitama Super Arena, the promotion's first card of 2011.

In the 134.5-pound tournament, Darren Uyenoyama will face Atsushi Yamamoto; Yoshiro Maeda will meet Hideo Tokoro; Masakazu Imanari takes on Keisuke Fujiwara; and finally, Kenji Osawa will fight Takafumi Otsuka.

The quarterfinals and semifinals will both take place on May 29. The winner of Uyenoyama vs. Yamamoto will fight the winner of Maeda vs. Tokoro. On the other side of the bracket, the winner of Imanari vs. Fujiwara will face the winner of Osawa vs. Otsuka. The finals will be held at a Dream event planned for July.

-- Darren Uyenoyama (6-3) is a grappler who returned to MMA last year fighting for DEEP and Shooto. Last September, Uyenoyama scored a second-round TKO win over current Shooto bantamweight champ Shuichiro Katsumura in a non-title bout.

-- Atsushi Yamamoto (14-6-1) is a member of "KID" Yamamoto's Krazy Bee team. He's already fought several of the tournament competitors, beating Tokoro (Dream.6) and losing to Imanari (Dream.7) and Maeda (Pancrase).

-- Yoshiro Maeda (28-9-2) is a PRIDE, WEC and DREAM veteran coming off wins against Otsuka and Masanori Kanehara. In June 2008, Maeda challenged Miguel Torres for the WEC bantamweight title and lost via TKO after three rounds.

-- Hideo Tokoro (27-23-1) is a grappling wizard who earned a submission win over Kazuhisa Watanabe at Dynamite!! on New Year's Eve. He holds a unanimous decision win over Uyenoyama from Dream.4.

-- Keisuke Fujiwara (11-2-4) competes for the ZST promotion. In his one fight outside of ZST, Fujiwara lost to Tomoya Miyashita at Dream.12.

-- Kenji Osawa (16-9-2), a four-time WEC competitor, defeated Maeda last May via split decision at Dream.14.

--Takafumi Otsuka (11-7-1) is a DEEP veteran who lost to Bibiano Fernandes in the opening round of the Dream Featherweight GP in 2009. Last October at DEEP 50, Otsuka lost a majority decision to Maeda.
