The UFC announced Saturday that Cruz vs. Faber is set for the fight card, which as the traditional Fourth of July weekend event is usually one of the biggest of the year for the UFC. The fight will likely be the main event, with a Jon Fitch-B.J. Penn rematch serving as the co-main event.
Cruz vs. Faber should be a sensational fight. It matches the two fighters generally regarded as the best in the world at 135 pounds, two fighters who have exciting but contrasting styles that should make things interesting, and two fighters who quite simply don't like each other, and don't hesitate to say so.
Faber and Cruz met once before, when Faber was the World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight champion and Cruz was making his WEC debut. That night, Faber needed just 1 minute, 38 seconds to submit Cruz with a guillotine choke. But Cruz has improved a great deal since then, while Faber has proven to be beatable. And while their first fight was at 145 pounds, this fight will be at 135, a better weight for Cruz.
So just about anything could happen. Which makes this a fight that will have fans in a lather.
