Villefort took a one-sided unanimous decision over Matt Horwich, winning 30-27 on all three judges' scorecards. It was a fine showing for Villefort, who improved his record to 13-3 and has now won four straight fights since losing his first and only UFC bout. But it wasn't particularly exciting, and it left a lot of the fans in Lubbock, Texas.
The fans were thrilled, however, by the way LaRosa won.
In the co-main event, a women's 125-pound match, LaRosa pulled off a sensational submission, forcing Carina Damm to tap to an inverted heel hook 28 seconds into the second round. It was Damm who first attempted a leg lock, but the savvy LaRosa quickly reversed it, improving her record to 20-2 and showing why she's widely regarded as one of the toughest women ever to step into the cage.
The card also saw Joseph Sandoval beating Sean Shakour by unanimous decision in a bantamweight battle, Gabriel Vasquez choking Layne Hernandez into unconsciousness with a third-round guillotine, Eric Davila outlasting Alex Cisne to win a third-round TKO and Mike Bronzoulis winning a unanimous decision over Lucas Lopes.
