Former IFL champion Matt Horwich's up-and-down career is as of now back on the upswing after defeating three-time NCAA wrestling champion Jake Rosholt Friday in the main event of an Xtreme Fight Night card in Tulsa, Okla.Horwich (26-16-1), who submitted former UFC title challenger Thales Leites in August and lost to Eric Schambari at Bellator 28 in September, stopped Rosholt with strikes in the third round. The loss placed Rosholt at 1-1 since his release one year ago from the UFC.
In other regional action this past weekend:
-- At the inaugural Australian Fighting Championships, three former TUF contestants picked up wins Friday in Victoria, Australia. Jesse Taylor (17-6) put out Dylan Andrews with a guillotine choke, Jeremy May (8-7) won by DQ over Ross Dallow and Richie Whitson (9-1) knocked out Masaya Doi.
-- Ryan Ford (13-3) handed Pete Spratt yet another rear-naked choke loss Friday at MFC 27 in Canada. Ford previously submitted Spratt at MFC 15 in February 2008 by -- yep, also a rear-naked choke.
-- After three straight losses in the UFC leading to his August release, Rodney Wallace (10-3) started his road back Friday with a unanimous decision over David Heath at MFC 27.
-- Former King of the Cage heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Tony Lopez (20-5) traveled to Queensland, Australia and scored a second-round rear-naked choke submission win Saturday at Brace For War 6 over two-time UFC competitor Brad Morris.
