Roger Bowling and Bobby Voelker's encounter at Strikeforce Challengers 8 in May ended anticlimactically and now the two welterweights are ready to clash again, this time in the main event of Strikeforce Challengers 11 on Oct. 22 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif.Strikeforce announced Monday the rematch along with a 165-pound catchweight bout between Billy Evangelista and Waachiim Spiritwolf, and the inclusion of Lavar Johnson.
Bowling (8-0) is a promising up-and-comer out of Cincinnati, Ohio whose victory in his Strikeforce debut was soured by a premature ending due to an accidental finger to the eye. Bowling couldn't open his eye and the fight went to a decision at 1:38 of the third round with Bowling proceeding to take the unanimous nod. Voelker (22-8) bounced back from the technical decision loss to pick up a split decision at the following Strikeforce Challengers event in July against Cory Devela.
The unbeaten Evangelista (10-0) will be returning from a yearlong layoff stemming from an injury suffered in his victory last November against Jorge Gurgel at Strikeforce Challengers 4. The AKA fighter appears to be being groomed towards welterweight considering the Gurgel fight was at 160 pounds and his next fight will be at 165 pounds. Spiritwolf (8-6-1) is a familiar name on the California MMA circuit and holds notable wins over Brett Cooper and Crafton Wallace. Spiritwolf dropped a fight last week against IFL veteran Delson Heleno by unanimous decision.
Heavyweight power puncher "Big" Johnson (14-3) has compiled (T)KO victories in his two Strikeforce outings. An opponent is to be announced.
