FEG announced Sunday that DREAM lightweight champion Shinya Aoki will take on Marcus Aurelio in a non title affair, Kazuyuki Miyata will face former Shooto champ "Lion" Takeshi Inoue and Joachim Hansen will look for his first win at featherweight against Hideo Tokoro.
Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Jason "Mayhem" Miller was also confirmed and officially announced via DREAM's official YouTube channel.
A bout between the recently crowned Sengoku featherweight champion Marlon Sandro and Kazuyuki Miyata was in the works but it fell through late in the negotiation process. Other representatives from rival promotion Sengoku were planned but those negotiations were also unsuccessful and so the DREAM vs. SRC aspect of DREAM.16 has been abandoned.
Even for FEG, having so few fights announced for one of the most important cards in the promotion's history has raised some eyebrows among the media. DREAM EP Keiichi Sasahara stated that he will explain the difficulties FEG have encountered in organizing DREAM.16 post-event.
Also, despite promising to address claims from featherweight champion Bibiano Fernandes that he has not been paid for the bout with Joachim Hansen back in May, Sasahara instead deferred to the absent Sadaharu Tanigawa. K-1 President Tanigawa will apparently speak on the issue at the next K-1 press conference.
