UFC 118: Nik Lentz Gets Ugly Win Over Andre Winner

Nik Lentz celebrates his win over Andre Winner at UFC 118.The first televised fight of Saturday night's UFC 118 card was not a particularly entertaining one, as Nik Lentz beat Andre Winner in a dull unanimous decision that left the fans booing.

The first round was a positional battle, with Lentz trying to take Winner down and Winner trying to keep the fight standing. In general Lentz was in control, either on the ground or clinching against the cage, although the best strikes were landed by Winner, including a couple of hard punches near the end of the round that might have been enough to win the round on the judges' scorecards.

The second round was more of the same, with Lentz mostly pressing Winner's back against the cage in the clinch. Lentz was unable to get the fight to the ground and Winner was unable to do much while Lentz held onto him, and the round was mostly a stalemate.

By the third round the fans were starting to boo a rather dull fight, and by the time Lentz got Winner to the ground and held him there, the fans seemed to have lost interest entirely. The crowd roused itself just enough to boo a little bit more as the fight ended, with Lentz on top of Winner.

The judges scored it 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 for Lentz.

Lentz improved his record to 19-3-2, including 3-0-1 in the UFC, while Winner fell to 11-4-1, and 2-2 in the UFC. Although Winner showed some promise during his time on The Ultimate Fighter, this may have been his final UFC fight.
