Nate Diaz absolutely

brutalized
Marcus Davis Saturday night at
UFC 118, using his striking to turn Davis's face into a mess in the first two rounds before choking Davis into unconsciousness in the third.
"I feel good," Diaz said afterward. "I think I broke my hand in the second round."
But while Diaz may have suffered a broken bone, it was Davis who really suffered in the fight.
Diaz raised his hands to taunt Davis in the early going, and Davis made him pay by landing a hard punch that knocked Diaz down. Davis swarmed on the ground and tried to finish Diaz, but Diaz got back up and didn't appear to be any worse for wear. From there they just stood in front of each other and brawled for the rest of the first round, and by the end of the round Davis's face was a bloody mess, with a big cut having opened on his right eye when Diaz landed a left hand.
Before the second round the cageside doctor checked Davis's eye and ruled that he could go on, but it did appear that the eye was bothering Davis. Diaz peppered Davis with punches from the outside, using his superior reach to keep Davis at bay. Davis did manage to take Diaz down at the very end of the round, but he didn't do anything on the ground, and his right eye had turned purple.
At the start of the third round referee Yves Lavigne told Davis to protect his eye, as if he needed to be reminded. Diaz continued battering Davis's face, and by about the two minute mark Davis's eye was horribly swollen. Finally Diaz took Davis down, sunk in a guillotine choke and kept tightening his grip until Davis was unconscious and Lavigne finally called the fight to a halt.
Diaz improved his record to 13-5 and is starting to look like he may be a future title contender in the welterweight division. Davis fell to 18-6 and suffered one of the worst beatdowns of his career.
