WEC 50 Live Blog: Scott Jorgensen vs. Brad Pickett Updates

This is the WEC 50 live blog for Scott Jorgensen vs. Brad Pickett, a bantamweight bout on tonight's WEC on Versus card at the Pearl in Las Vegas.

The live blog is below.

Round 1: Jorgensen fell backwards after Pickett caught a low kick and landed a straight right. Moments later, the same thing. Low kicks may be out the window now. Pickett landing his strikes well. Jorgensen goes low for an ankle pick takedown, but Pickett gets right back to his feet. A crazy sequence followed. Jorgensen tagged Pickett, whose mouthpiece fell out. Pickett bent over to pick it up as Jorgensen continued throwing punches. Pickett backpedaled as he put the mouthpiece back in and Jorgensen tried to chase him down with strikes. Moments later, Jorgensen shot in for a takedown, but Pickett snatched a guillotine. After a few tense moments, Jorgensen was able to pull free. Both men are bleeding. Wild round. MMA Fighting scores it for Pickett, 10-9.

Round 2: Exchanges aplenty to start the round. Jorgensen crunched Pickett with an overhand right that knocked Pickett's mouthpiece out again. This time he didn't chase it down. They continued on. During a quick break, the ref called timeout and picked up the mouthpiece. Pickett was asked if he wanted to wash it. He said no, and put it back in his mouth. Action resumed in a flash. Jorgensen began really finding his range. Jorgensen decided to show his other dimension and took Pickett down. He landed some elbows on the ground. When the got back to their feet, Jorgensen tried a standing guillotine, but Pickett pulled out before the round ended. MMA Fighting scores it for Jorgensen, 10-9.

Round 3: Another back-and-forth series to start the round until Jorgensen scores a takedown. Pickett tries a triangle and uses it to get back to his feet as we near the midway point. Pickett lands an overhand right and uppercut before Jorgensen takes him down again. Jorgensen's control could steal the round if Pickett can't work his way free quickly. Pickett is active from the bottom though, throwing up his legs for triangles, but Jorgensen evades them. He ends up in side control and lands knees to the body. With a minute left it seems clear Jorgensen is content to keep the fight on the ground. Pickett tries to work free but no dice. With about 15 seconds left, Pickett reverses position, but he doesn't have enough time to go for a finish as the final horn goes off in a spirited battle. MMA Fighting scores the round for Jorgensen, 10-9.

Winner: Scott Jorgensen via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
