War on the Mainland Live Blog: Gustavo Machado vs. Rick Reeves Updates

This is the War on the Mainland live blog for Gustavo "Ximu" Machado vs. Rick Reeves, a middleweight bout on tonight's Powerhouse World Promotions pay-per-view at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif.

Machado (18-8-1) is a veteran who holds wins over Nate Quarry and Allan Goes and has fought against the likes of Ricardo Arona, Demian Maia, Thales Leites. Reeves (8-3) fights out of the Lions' Den in Reno.

The live blog is below.

Machado enters first and he has Fabricio Werdum, Renato "Babalu" Sobral and Juanito in his corner.

Round 1: They box and both are active with leg kicks. Reeves is the aggressor. He pays for it and gets countered with two punches. Machado keeps up his attack with an assortment of leg kicks. Machado hits Reeves with a right. Machado lands another right and Reeves' mouthpiece flies out. Reeves has a nice front kick and he's able to back Machado to the corner, but he's having a hard time following up. Machado is fighting a patient game, throwing leg kicks, backing when Reeves comes forward and then finding an opening if it's there.

MMAFighting.com scores the round 10-9 for Machado.

Round 2: Reeves comes forward and gets hit with a right. And again, Machado lands a counter right. Nice leg kicks by Reeves. Reeves lands his best shot of the night with an overhand left set up with a front kick. Machado gets more aggressive, but Reeves covers up. Reeves mixing it up. Machado lands a couple of rights. Reeves attempts a spinning back fist.

Close round. I would lean towards Machado.

Round 3: Reeves opens with a hard leg kick. They clinch 30 seconds in and maybe they'll go to the ground? Machado is a black belt and Reeves a brown, but we haven't seen any takedown attempts. They separate and Reeves storms in with a takedown. Machado shoves Reeves up and then throws his own leg over for a leglock, but Reeves scrambles to his feet. Reeves scores another takedown with 90 seconds left but again Machado attempts a heel hook and Reeves scrambles back to his feet. Nice takedowns by Reeves but both times he was unable to maintain position.

Another tough round to score but again I'll lean towards Machado.

The official scores are all over the place: 29-28 Machado, 30-27 Reeves, 30-27 Machado.

Machado wins by split decision
