Tate looks for the takedown and drags Akano down, but Akano is comfortably on top despite Tate having Akano's back. Akano rolls and attempts a toehold. Tate grabs Akano's arm to relieve pressure and escapes. Tate stands up to drop down punches into the guard of Akano.

Round 2: Akano throws a kick. Tate lands a straight right. Tate takes Akano down. Tate moves to side but Akano gives up her back. Akano turtles and rolls on top, but she still has one leg trapped by Tate. Tate puts her hooks in to secure back control. Tate wants the choke but Akano tuckers her chin. Akano turns and Tate attempts an armbar. Akano escapes and time expires.

Round 3: Akano taps a kick to the body. Tate lands a kick and Akano catches to attempt a throw but Tate takes her down and secures Akano's back. Tate digging her forearm to try to get it on Akano's neck. Akano tries to escape from underneath. Tate grabs a keylock. Akano escapes but Tate maintains control of Akano's back. Tate throws punches to close the fight.

Tate wins by unanimous decision and earns a possible rematch against Sarah Kaufman for the title.
