Diego Garijo Beats Jens Pulver in a Sad Loss for a Legend

Jens Pulver's losing streak continues.

Pulver, the MMA fan favorite and former UFC lightweight champion who was dumped by World Extreme Cagefighting this year after losing his fifth consecutive fight, was back in the ring on Saturday night at the War on the Mainland show in Irvine, California, where the little-known Diego Garijo needed only one minute and eight seconds to force him to tap out to a guillotine choke.

Pulver still hasn't won a fight since defeating Cub Swanson in his first WEC fight in 2007. Pulver hasn't even gotten out of the first round in a fight since his five-round battle with Urijah Faber more than two years ago.

Both fighters came out swinging, and 40 seconds into the first round Garijo floored Pulver with a hard left hand. Once he knocked Pulver down, Garijo pounced, sunk in the choke, and got Pulver to tap. It was a sad ending to the fight for Pulver fans -- and it may be a sad ending to Pulver's career.

Pulver will always be a beloved figure among MMA fans, but there comes a point in every athlete's life when he just can't go on anymore. For the 35-year-old Pulver, that point has arrived. Here's hoping he finds work as an MMA coach and commentator, and that he no longer needs to fight to pay his bills. He just can't do it anymore.
