UFC 117: Clay Guida Beats Rafael dos Anjos

Clay Guida earned a big come-from-behind victory Saturday night at UFC 117, struggling in the first round before coming back in the second and forcing Rafael dos Anjos to tap out in the third.

It wasn't clear why dos Anjos tapped, but it appeared that he may have suffered a broken jaw. In a classy move, Guida offered his sympathy to dos Anjos after the fight and said he hoped dos Anjos wasn't hurt.

It was a back-and-forth brawl early in the first round, with Guida landing a head kick, dos Anjos landing several leg kicks, and both guys throwing flurries of punches. The pace of the fight started to slow down when Guida went for a takedown and held dos Anjos against the fence in the middle of the first, but the action picked up again as they separated and exchanged strikes late in the round. Dos Anjos landed a good uppercut and secured a takedown late in the round, and that was probably enough to give it to him on the judges' cards.

In the second Guida finally got the takedown he wanted and stayed on top for the last couple minutes of the round, but he wasn't able to do much from top position, as dos Anjos did a good job of controlling Guida from his guard. A minute into the third Guida secured another takedown and was controlling the fight on the top, and then dos Anjos suddenly tapped, even though Guida didn't appear to be applying a submission.

That made for a strange ending to a good fight -- but a great ending for Guida, who has bounced back from a two-fight losing streak in 2009 and is now 2-0 in 2010.
