's lightweight semifinal fight will be against Pat Curran
at Bellator 17
on May 6 in Boston, the promotion announced Tuesday. Also, Toby Imada
will meet Carey Vanier
on the other side of the bracket.
With the matchups, Bellator is slotting two established fighters in Huerta and Imada against relative newcomers Vanier and Curran.
Huerta (21-3-1) won on the season premiere against previously undefeated Chad Hinton by way of kneebar submission. He faces the 22-year-old Curran, who advanced last week with an impressive knockout over GSP training partner Mike Ricci. Curran (10-3) is the cousin of former WEC contender Jeff Curran.
Imada (24-13), who will forever be remembered for his inverted triangle choke over Jorge Masvidal last year, last week submitted James Krause with an armbar in the second round. Vanier (8-2) out of Team Greg Jackson fought on the same card as Huerta two weeks ago and scored a third-round stoppage over Joe Duarte.
All four are looking to win the tournament for a chance at Eddie Alvarez and they will have the opportunity to scout the champ first-hand as the Alvarez vs. Josh Neer superfight has been booked on the same Bellator 17 card.
