With a beautiful Brazilian jiu jitsu display, Rafael dos Anjos submitted Terry Etim in the second round of a very entertaining fight Saturday at UFC 112.
Although Etim, a luta livre specialist, has solid ground skills, dos Anjos showed that his ground game was superior and managed to make Etim tap late in the second round with a textbook arm bar.
The 24-year-old Etim got dos Anjos in a guillotine in the opening seconds of the first round and held it for almost two full minutes, but dos Anjos looked relaxed and comfortable and never in danger of having to tap out or go to sleep. Eventually dos Anjos got free and there wasn't a whole lot of action the rest of the way, save for the referee warning dos Anjos about kneeing Etim in the spine.
In the second round dos Anjos caught an Etim kick and took him down into side control, and from there he did what he does best: Worked his way into dominant position, looked for openings to find submissions, and eventually went from a north-south position into an arm bar that gave Etim no choice but to tap.
Etim is a promising young lightweight who has a great career ahead of him, but the loss dropped him to 14-3. Dos Anjos got one of the best wins of his career and improved to 14-4.
