UFC on Versus 1 live blog for
Brandon Vera vs.
Jon Jones, the main event of tonight's Versus card.
The much-hyped Jones faces his toughest test in former prospect Vera. Both are coming off losses in fights where they arguably should have won. Jones is coming off the first blemish of his career, a disqualification loss against Matt Hamill. Vera lost in his last fight in a controversial decision loss to Randy Couture.
The live blog begins below.
Round 1: Jones goes right to clinch and takes down Vera into Vera's guard. Vera kicks Jones off and they are both back on the feet. Jones catches a kick but Vera slips out. Jones clinches and lowers for the double. Jones manhandles Vera with the takedown. Vera accidentally throws an upkick to Jones jaw. Jones reacts in pain and referee Herb Dean gives him a break. Vera apologizes, but loses a point. They are restarted with Vera in open guard. Vera upkicks again but only to the shoulder. Vera closes his guard. Jones drops a left elbow that has Vera immediately covering his face. Vera turns away in pain. Jones continues to rain punches until the referee stoppage.
