Feb 13, 2010 - One of the best developments of the last year for MMA fans has been the decision by the UFC and Spike TV to put a couple of preliminary fights on basic cable prior to the big pay-per-view shows. It's good for fans to get more fights on TV, and the fights have delivered solid ratings for Spike.
Unfortunately, for UFC 110, there won't be any preliminary fights on Spike.
I checked with Spike officials and was told that Spike is contracted for 10 prelims and has already aired two this year, so the network is already a little ahead of pace. There would also be some challenges for airing UFC 110 preliminaries because the card is in Australia.
Still, it's disappointing because there are two fights on the UFC 110 undercard -- Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski and C.B. Dollaway vs. Goran Reljic -- that seem tailor made for Spike TV. We'll just have to hope those make the pay-per-view broadcast.
Spike and the UFC haven't determined the future dates that prelims will be aired, but UFC 111 on March 27, UFC 113 on May 8, UFC 114 on May 29, UFC 115 on June 12 and UFC 116 on July 3 would seem to be safe bets.
