Fresh off a New Year's Eve victory over Hayato "Mach" Sakurai, the eccentric Akihiro Gono will next fight for World Victory Road at Sengoku 12 on March 7 in Tokyo, Japan.
After facing a 47-fight veteran in Sakurai, Gono (31-15-7) will return to the ring facing Diego Gonzalez (13-3), a Swedish prospect riding an eight-fight win streak and whose last loss was to Dan Hardy in March 2006.
The welterweight bout was one of three fights announced Wednesday for Sengoku 12. The other two are heavyweight Yoshihiro "KISS" Nakao taking on Sentoryu and lightweight Leo Santos fighting Kiuma Kunioku.
Sengoku 12 is headlined by a title defense from middleweight champion Jorge Santiago against challenger Mamed Khalidov.
