LAS VEGAS -- The original plan for Nate Marquardt was to have him face Dan Henderson, and the winner would receive a shot at the middleweight title. But after Henderson, a free agent following his UFC 100 victory over Michael Bisping, signed with Strikeforce, Marquardt was essentially forced into a fight against Chael Sonnen, a fighter he admits to have being not all that excited to fight initially.MMA Fighting spoke to Marquardt at Wednesday's UFC 109 media day about his initial hesitation to fight Sonnen, how he plans on defeating the Team Quest member and why he wants Anderson Silva to defeat Vitor Belfort at UFC 112. One of my favorite fighters. I really think MMA sleeps on this guy. I legitimately think that he has a shot at beating Anderson. And if Anderson retired, he would be the MW champ.
Absolutely. Nate has evolved and improved since his loss to Anderson and has looked fantastic in his last few fights. Not only that but he's looking to finish fights which makes him exciting to watch.
Yes, Nate has looked great in his last couple fights, but he looked lackluster only 1.5 yrs ago losing to Leites.
Sonnen is a tougher matchup than most think. If Marquardt finishes Sonnen easily then I too will be completely on the bandwagon.
Nate is def top 5 MW but he doesnt stand a chance against Anderson. I think Anderson should move up to LH and relinquish the MW belt. No one at MW can beat A Silva.
i wish there was someone better for him than chael sonnen. i'd like to see nate take him out. but not for $50. oh well. strikeforce has 10 mw's who would be a better fight than sonnen. i wanna know, ufc is the best. where are all the best fighters in the world. chael sonnen?? so sad hendo left :( let me cry a river for you fanboys. pay up.
