Strikeforce Live Blog: Matt Lindland vs. 'Jacare' Souza Updates

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- This is the Strikeforce live blog for Matt Lindland vs. Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, a middleweight bout on the Showtime card.

Lindland matches his Olympic-caliber wrestling with Souza's highly decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu background in the two fighters' Strikeforce debut.

The live blog begins below.

Jacare enters focused and clapping his arms like an alligator's mouth ("Jacare" is Portuguese for alligator). Lindland walks down to join his Team Quest family. Big John McCarthy gets a louder response from the crowd than the fighters.

Round 1: Lindland lands a kick. Jacare throws heavy jabs. Jacare shrugs off a clinch attempt. Jacare misses a high kick and Lindland tries to capitalize with a takedown attempt. Jacare escapes and lands a punch upon separating. Jacare is throwing with bad intentions but they're coming up short. Lindland goes for the takedown and Jacare rolls to his back. Jacare slaps on a triangle choke and then an armbar. Lindland escapes, but he's caught in an omoplata. Jacare drops punches. Somehow Lindland almost gets an omoplata. Excellent ground action thus far. Jacare throws punches from the inside of Lindland's guard. Jacare drops a flashy punch and passes to halfguard. Jacare attempts the head-arm triangle with a minute left. Lindland taps.
