Forrest Griffin and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira both had big wins at UFC 106 Saturday night, and they're both on my list of the Top 10 light heavyweights in MMA.My question now is whether they should fight each other next. As strong as the UFC's light heavyweight division is, there's a bit of a logjam in it. The Lyoto Machida-Shogun Rua rematch for the title won't take place until May 1, Rampage Jackson is off making movies and Dan Henderson is in a contract dispute, and that means the only light heavyweight fight including top 10 fighters scheduled for the next five months is Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva.
My Top 10 list is below.
MMA Top 10 Light Heavyweights
1. Lyoto Machida
2. Anderson Silva
3. Mauricio Rua
4. Rashad Evans
5. Forrest Griffin
6. Quinton Jackson
7. Dan Henderson
8. Gegard Mousasi
9. Thiago Silva
10. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

i dont think griffin was a top 10 when he held the belt.
why do you keep putting machida above shogun when shogun clearly beat him? certainly you're not going to let those 3 CA judges tell you what you saw with your own eyes; did you really think machida beat shogun?
machida is still number one cuz he has the belt, thats the only reason he is top. everyone and their mom knows rua won that fight, and i think he should be number one too. but since the belt isnt in his possesion he cant be top. machida is definitely third though, behind silva at two
In the 2010 before they have the rematch you can predict Rua by KO again. However, I don't think so; Rua had his chance and Machida will adjust.
hey Ted, i'm not the only one who though it was obvious shogun won; dana made an immediate rematch. he even said he didnt know what the judges saw to score machida. thats the problem. when you have 3 people scoring a fight that have never had a fight, they dont know what their seeing. seriously, thats a problem. machida spent the last 2 rounds running away from shogun. shogun landed more and controled the fight. whats the guy supposed to do to win?
Richard - I am not disagreeing about the first fight; if Rua won it 3 rounds to 2 rounds I would not have objected. MMA scoring is too ambiguous. However, it is like you said; never leave it in the hands of the judges. I was just suprised Rua did not try to finish it as you predicted.
I hope both fighters throw balls to the walls in the rematch. In all honesty I do believe Rua will stop Machida unless Machida pulls off a magic trick.
hey Ted, for the record that was a good morning type hey Ted, not the i'm salty about the decission type.
what really seperates a shogun, a vitor, machida, silva,... from the 90% of the other fighters is their ability to get in or in silva's and machidas case in and out. that quickness is what really seperates them. after that everyone can throw a 1 -2. point being machida doesnt have that advantage over shogun.
i'm going with shogun again, maybe this time he'll go for the ko.
This list is just ridiculous. How is it that Forrest Griffin is the 5th best LHW in all of MMA? Seriously? You think Forrest Griffin is better than Gegard Mousasi, Dan Henderson, Couture, Vera & Rogerio Noguiera? Really?
My list would be as follows:
1. Shogun
2. Rampage
3. Machida
4. Mousasi
5. Evans
6. A. Silva
7. Rogerio Noguiera
8. T. Silva
9. Henderson
10. Couture
I'm sure most people will pick my list apart as well but here's my logic: Rampage hasn't lost a fight in a while ... in my opinion he beat Griffin so I don't discredit him for that loss. The only reason Rua is ahead of Rampage is because he beat him twice in Pride FC. I thought that Rua beat Machida so working off that assumption I think Machida is the 3rd best LHW even if he is still the UFC LHW champion. Basically, I can't put Anderson Silva as one of the top 5 LHW's when he has only had two fights in the division against a borderline top 10 fighter (griffin) and an average fighter in James Irvin.
I think thats a great list pretty damn close to what I think. I think Mousasi can only go up at this point unless something major happens
Johnny I actually would have my list exactly the same as yours.
There's no way Machida (with belt or not) should be at number 1, and every other fighter is right where they should be, good list.
Johnny - Your contradicting yourself. Your last Pound for Pound the other day had Machida ahead of Rua LOL.. Also you have Mousasi at #4; come on! In your heart you think he is better than Rampage, Machida, & Rua. Enough with your spin; be the Johnny that we have all come to respect :).
1.Machida/Rua
2.Mousasi
3.Evans/Rampage
4.Little Nog
5.A Silva
Johnny I spoke too soon, I love the list still but I would put A. Silva at 4th bumping everyone behind that back.
Statistically Machida has been hit less and won all his fights. Even though his last fight was a bust, you still have to give it to him.
i honestly dont think couture should be anywhere near a top 10 maybe top 20
Why do people keep hating on Forrest. He puts it on the line everytime and gets better the longer the fight lasts.
Honestly, people continue to hate on Griffin because he got completely and utterly embarrassed by a usual 185 pound fighter in Anderson Silva, granted he's the best pound for pound fighter in all of mma. Also, keep in mind Forrest is a bigger 205 fighter. Oh, don't forget about his lost to Rashad and what should have been a loss to Rampage, Forrest is very overrated and it's annoying. That's why true mma and ufc fans are hating on Griffin.
King Mo
Lyoto needs yo go down in wieght and fight Silva that would be the best matchup for both of them. Of course both of them are patient fighters so it might be a long fight in wich i would'nt mind. They both like to counter alot and stalk their opponents. Thats the best matchup for both undefeated champs. Rua gave a good show vs lyoto but not enough to overturn the champ. The rematch between them two is well deserved to us fans, but in the mean time Dana needs to get Silva to move up or Lyoto to move down thats a fight thats a crowd pleaser.
I wouldnt necessarily put A.Silva as #2. He's awesome, but he's only had one fight at light heavyweight...
