Two days ago, I don't think anyone had Jose Aldo listed as one of the top 10 pound-for-pound fighters in mixed martial arts. But after what Aldo did to Mike Brown on Wednesday night, I don't think there's any way to exclude him.
Aldo didn't just beat Brown to win the World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight title, he dominated him: Dominated someone who himself had dominated the featherweight division up until he ran into Aldo. So my new pound-for-pound rankings include a new name, and a name that I have a feeling we'll be seeing on pound-for-pound lists for a long, long time.
Top 10 Pound for Pound Fighters in MMA
1. Fedor Emelianenko
2. Anderson Silva
3. Georges St. Pierre
4. B.J. Penn
5. Lyoto Machida
6. Jose Aldo
7. Brian Bowles
8. Shogun Rua
9. Rashad Evans
10. Miguel Torres

Aldo will be number one some day. That's how good he is. He is a Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt and Brazilian jiu jitsu isn't even the good part of his game. He's the 145-pound version of Anderson Silva but might be more of a competitor than "The Spider."
Yeah he is like Silva, but not Silva. No one will ever be as great. Striking is 10/10. You can't say that about anyone else.
how can shogun not be listed higher than machida when the whole world except for three complete ignorant judges saw shogun beat machida at his own game. dana watched the fight - questioned what the judges saw - and scheduled an immediate rematch.
also, wheres vitor. theres no way to have a #4# without vitor.
I hear you about Vitor, but I don't think that 2 good wins over tough veterans (Lindland & Franklin) is enough ... his opponents before that were soft. He needs to beat Anderson, Dan, or Marquardt IMO.
i think vitor's back. his losses were a result of his personal problems, and i wont be surprised if he ko's silva.
he does deserve to be listed though for his extreme gifts and talent.
No Mousasi on the list???
My list:
1. Fedor
2. Silva
3. GSP
4. Penn
5. Mousasi
6. Machida
7. Aldo
8. Shogun
9. Aoki
10. Belfort
Bowles, Torres and Evans have no business being in anyones top 10 list. How can you leave Mousasi off the list and have Bowles on the list? Bowles had one good win against Torres where as Mousasi has beaten Kang, Manhoef, Souza, Sobral, Sokodjou, Lombard & Yoon and has fought at MW, LHW & HW. His last loss was to Gono in 2006 and he hasn't lost since then. No reason for Mousasi to be left off the list. What does he need to do to get some respect from the media?
I don't agree with you that Bowles shouldn't be considered, but I do agree with you that Mousasi should be on the list. He should be in the #9 spot IMO.
