HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. --
Jason "Mayhem" Miller is a great entertainer. He showed in his fight with
Jake Shields on Saturday night that he's a pretty good fighter, too -- but not quite good enough to beat Shields in a fight that often felt like a stalemate and left a lot of fans booing Saturday night at
Strikeforce, Fedor vs. Rogers.
Miller, as usual, had an entertaining entrance, featuring dancing girls and some dancing of his own. Shields didn't need an escort of entertainers, however, he just strolled into the cage and did his business. He shot immediately for a takedown and got Miller exactly where he wanted him. Amazingly, when Shields got to full mount, Miller was able to stand back up without taking much damage.
In fact, with a little over a minute left in the round it was Miller who slammed Shields to the ground, and then twice took him down again with belly-to-back suplexes. In the early going, Miller was able to hang with Shields on the ground, and the third round had a fantastic finish, as Miller sunk in a rear-naked choke with less than 10 seconds left, but Shields hung on and refused to tap until the horn sounded. That got the crowd aroused, and the fighters got a huge ovation at the start of the fourth round.
But through much of the fourth and fifth, the fans were booing. Shields controlled the action and won the rounds in a way that satisfied the judges, but not the fans. The scores were 48-47, 49-46 and 49-46 in favor of Shields, who won a unanimous decision that left the fans disappointed. It wasn't a great title fight for Strikeforce on CBS.

Jake Shields is a solid wrestler and jiu jitsu guy, but I wasn't that impressed. Mayhem countered and nearly finished him on the rear naked choke. Not vice-versa. He got the take down on numerous occaisons, but really did nothing substantial with it. No ground and pound. No close calls for a submission. And yet he's being talked about like he's the 2nd coming of Anderson Silva. He's got a ton of work to do on his non existent stand up.
Chin up Mayhem. You won a lot of fans and earned a ton of respect. Come back to the UFC where you belong.
This Jason 'Mayhem' Miller character is quite the show-man.The problem is,he doesn't show-up in the octagon. That was the case with his very predictable defeat against Jake Shields at Strikeforce, Fedor vs. Rogers.
Shields never controlled much, mayhem managed to counter and continue to stand. It was a good 5 round fight and i feel mayhem had many good takedowns and that rear naked choke. You better be on ellis on monday Mayhem,
RED DRAGONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PoliticallyCorrectApostate...of course Miller doesnt show up in the octagon...he doesnt fight in the ufc ya douche. Shields sucks massively, all he did was dry hump his way to a title.
Jacare will take the title in due time, and Hendo def will if he ever signs.
I THINK SHIELDS WANTED TO TAKE MAYHEM DOWN AND HUG HIM. MAYHEM WANTED TO THROW BLOWS BUT SHIELDS DIDNT WANT ANY OF THAT.
Jake and his crew from the Bay are no question great fighters, but in this fight Mayhem Miller out wrestled him, countered him, and controled the fight... Props to Jason Miller, he has real skills and should be wearing the belt..Jake, now get ready for the true champ Cung Le who is comming for his belt..In that fight you can't hope that your rep will give you another win...Get ready
