Josh Koscheck and Anthony Johnson have agreed to step in on short notice to fight each other at UFC 106, beefing up a card that became one of the UFC's weakest recent pay-per-view shows when Brock Lesnar pulled out with an illness.Koscheck wrote on Twitter Tuesday night that he had agreed fight in the co-main event at UFC 106. Sherdog later reported that Johnson would be his opponent.
Johnson vs. Koscheck isn't a great co-main event, but it's a decent fight. Johnson is one of the up-and-coming stars of the welterweight division, and Koscheck will be his most accomplished opponent to date. For a bout taken on less than a month's notice (UFC 106 is on November 21), it's a good fight.
Koscheck has never had a problem with taking fights on short notice: He actually took his fight with Thiago Alves at UFC 90 on even shorter notice when Diego Sanchez pulled out. And for Johnson, who came in a ridiculous six pounds overweight when he fought at UFC 104 on Saturday, fighting again four weeks later might be a good thing: It won't allow him to balloon up between fights like he has in the past.
UFC 106 is headlined by a main event of Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin.

If Johnson comes in overweight again, he shouldn't be allowed to compete at 170 in the future. 6 lbs overweight is ridiculous!
Koscheck vs Johnson is a good fight ... a fight in which the winner will be considered a top contender, but this card has problems without the heavyweight title fight. It should be free on Spike, but with 105 already being on Spike it won't happen.
they need to add one more fight like this to make the card worth it!
Go Super Jesus!!!!
Rumble Johnson actually walks around at 220 lbs leading up to his fights. That's crazy he can even make 170 lbs. No matter how you slice it this isn't ending good for Koscheck. I see a first round KO or stoppage. I think Rumble has as good a chance as any to beat GSP considering he has a wrestling base and huge size. Not that I would pick him to beat GSP but he has as good a chance as Hardy or Swick.
Johnny, why must you be so informed, man? XD
I agree. I've never been too crazy over Koscheck, but I enjoy using him in the videogame. Never-the-less, I see him getting pummeled. If he tries to stand and trade with argueably the most powerful welterweight in the UFC (not to mention the biggest and one of the most explosive), it's gonna actually be a SHORT night for him. His path to victory lies in somehow securing a takedown and exploiting Johnson's rarely seen ground game.
Easier said than done, though. But, who knows. We watch this sport for that very reason; Unpredictability.
johnny,
perfect analysis not much more to say.
although, i do hope koshchek finds a way to win.
the loss of lesner/carwin really kills this card.
shorty, nice to hear from you, where ya been?
@shorty
Yeah Kos is a beast in the game. Still not as good as Rashad (best overall stats in the game I think) but a beast none-the-less.
If you play it on the PS3 add me and we'll play sometime. I don't do the full mount exploit/cheat. My PSN ID is the same as my screen name here. johnnynumber5.
@Neo
Yeah man they really really need to add another fight ... I'd say move the Couture vs Vera to this card but thats not going to happen. I'd love to see the UFC throw Velasquez and Carwin together since Cane didn't take any damage and is still probably in great shape. They need another marquee fight for it to be worth a PPV buy ... I was going to buy it just to see Lesnar vs Carwin. No way I'm paying for a fight with two co-main events and no main event. They should add another good fight or put it on Spike or just postpone it all together.
Here. Lol. Just haven't found much need to post for a while, haha. Plenty of enjoyment just reading some of the nonsense on here.
I REALLY like Johnson, but I dunno if this event in it's entirety is worth ordering... They would need one more big fight for sure!
