On this week's edition of The MMA Hour, we were joined by Dan Hardy, who faces Mike Swick in a No. 1 contender's match at UFC 105 on Nov. 14. Hardy talked about getting a shot to fight for the title early in his UFC career, MMA's popularity in the United Kingdom, and his recent criticism of Bernard Hopkins after the boxing legend blasted MMA.
Later in the show, we spoke to Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker about the upcoming Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers bout on Nov. 7, the Dan Henderson sweepstakes, and when we should expect to see Gina Carano return to action. Ray Hui and I also looked back at UFC 104 and Brock Lesnar having to pull out of his title fight at UFC 106.

Seriously. Since they are having no discussion on it. I am watching TUF and the first fight is just pissing me off. Out of the whole world this is the best fighters they could come up with? A bunch of fat azzses that gas in the first round? What a friggin joke. Also they are advertising the Lesnar/Carwin fight. WTF?!?!? Get your sh*t together UFC.

What was my point? That you thought that TUF has the best fighters in the world, which they don't. They cast based on personalities so they can get ratings and throw in whatever talent shows up for the try outs. The real talent gets a contract from Strikeforce, Sengoku, DREAM, or the UFC.
Heavy lineman type football players will not be instant professional MMArtist's. They are trained to go at each other for about 3-8 seconds and then rest 30 seconds. Their bodies are not like those of MMA guys, or boxers who run for miles and train all out for three to five minutes and take a break for a minute. The reaction of the fast twitch muscle fibers are very different from those who have built both fast and slow twitch fibers. Fast twitch fibers are used for explosive power and they use ATP for energy; whereas slow twitch fibers generally use oxygen for mitachondria energy. It will take many of those heavy weights on TUF years to become efficient at using their slow twitch fibers (and their aerobic conditioning). A truly great heavyweight is hard to find; that is why Fedor and others are such big names for they are both strong, fast and have endurance; not to mention their knockout power and brilliant ground games.
