UFC 104 Live Blog: Cain Velasquez vs. Ben Rothwell Round-by-Round Updates

This is the UFC 104 live blog for UFC 104 live blog for Cain Velasquez vs. Ben Rothwell, a heavyweight bout on tonight's pay-per-view card.

Former IFL star Rothwell makes his UFC debut against the unbeaten Velasquez, a talented wrestler training out of the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose.

Round 1: Velasquez throws a leg kick and Rothwell answers with punches. Velasquez with more kicks and Rotwell looks to counter. Velasquez digs for a single-leg 20 seconds in and takes Rothwell down. Velasquez controls as Rothwell tries to stand up. Velasquez dumps Rothwell down. Rothwell stands back up and comes in with punches. Velasquez reaches for another single-leg and puts Rothwell on his back. Velasquez drops punches from side control. Rothwell turns and escapes to his feet. Velasquez takes him right back down and drops short heavy elbows from side. Velasquez momentarily takes full mount but Rothwell pushes him off. Rothwell stands and passes to side, and then full mount. Velasquez rains down punches. Rothwell gives up his back. Rothwell stands and Velasquez takes him down. Velasquez controls Rothwell's back and adds punches. Rothwell stands up.

FanHouse scores the round 10-8 for Velasquez.

Round 2: Velasquez lands punches and scores the takedown. Velasquez takes Rothwell's back and throws punches. As Rothwell tries to stand up against the cage, Velasquez hits him repeatedly with lefts. The referee stops the fight and Rothwell complains of the stoppage.
