In an otherwise quiet week for MMA, World Extreme Cagefighting is taking center stage on Saturday night with a WEC 43 card on Saturday night headlined by an interim lightweight title fight between Donald Cerrone and Ben Henderson. We've got the full preview and predictions below.
What: WEC 43: Cerrone vs. Henderson
When: The undercard starts at 7 PM ET Saturday, and the televised card begins at 10.
Where: AT&T Center, San Antonio
How: Watch live on Versus.
Predictions on the four televised fights: Donald Cerrone vs. Ben Henderson The only loss of Cerrone's career came by split decision to WEC lightweight champ Jamie Varner, and while Varner is sidelined by injury, Cerrone's plan is to get the interim belt and set up a rematch with Varner. Henderson has a good ground game and could give Cerrone trouble there, but I see Cerrone as a better all-around fighter and I think he'll win this fight handily. Pick: Cerrone
Richard Crunkilton vs. Dave Jansen Crunkilton doesn't get enough credit for what a well-rounded fighter he is; his 16-2 record includes seven wins by (T)KO and six by submission, and there's no shame in his two losses, to Hermes Franca and Rob McCullough. I like him to beat Jansen, a submission specialist who's 12-0 but hasn't faced much high-level competition. Pick: Crunkilton.
Rafael Assuncao vs. Yves Jabouin Assuncao is a Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt and a rising featherweight who won his WEC debut in April. Jabouin is an aggressive striker who trains with Georges St. Pierre and usually gives the fans a good show, but I expect him to get submitted on Saturday night. Pick: Assuncao.
Damacio Page vs. Will Campuzano Page won his last fight in devastating fashion, knocking out Marcus Galvao in just 18 seconds. Campuzano is 6-0 in his MMA career, but I think he's going to have a hard time hanging with Page, one of the hardest punchers in the bantamweight division. Pick: Page.
